Congressman Dan Crenshaw of Texas strongly criticized the leftist Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, or AMLO, after AMLO's outburst related to fighting the country's drug cartels.
At a press event last week, AMLO criticized the Republican Party for their proposal to deploy the U.S. military in order to eradicate the world's strongest multi-billion dollar drug cartels.
Following the abduction of four Americans, two of whom were killed, last week in Mexico, Mexican President AMLO spoke out. Numerous U.S. representatives have proposed the deployment of the U.S. military to eliminate the cartels in order to prevent the tens of thousands of fatalities from drug overdoses in America each year.
Beginning now, we are going to launch an information campaign targeted at Mexicans living and working in the US and all Hispanics to inform them of our endeavors in Mexico and how the Republican proposal is irresponsible and insulting to the Mexican people. We view it as a lack of respect for our autonomy and sovereignty. If they don't alter their stance and use Mexico for their political gain, we urge them not to vote for that party due to its meddling, cruel, insincere, and unethical nature.
Congressman Crenshaw, who earlier this year proposed a bill which would permit American forces to enter Mexico and eliminate the cartels, responded to AMLO's comments in an interview with Guy Benson of Fox News Radio.
Crenshaw commented, “The current president is beyond control. If one was not certain before if he had been bribed by the cartels, they can now be quite sure, as these remarks were issued without any warning. I never specifically referred to him by name, or made any statements about him. All I said was that we must combat these cartels that have been inflicting terror on Mexicans for the past two decades. We cannot accurately gauge the number of people murdered or abducted each year by these criminal organizations, but we know it is in the tens of thousands.”
Americans are now aware of the danger of fentanyl, Crenshaw remarked, as it is being mixed into illicit drugs. He stated that this is more of a poisoning crisis than a drug problem.
