Judge in Trump Election Lawsuit Previously Employed at Law Firm Where Hunter Biden Worked

Judge Tanya Chutkan's Past Association with Hunter Biden

The federal judge assigned to oversee the case against former President Donald Trump, brought by special counsel Jack Smith regarding the January 6 incident, has drawn attention due to her past association with Hunter Biden. The judge, Tanya Chutkan, previously worked at the same law firm that employed President Joe Biden's son. This revelation has sparked interest, similar to the scrutiny faced by another judge in Florida overseeing a separate case against Trump.

Judge Chutkan's Reputation and Rulings

Judge Chutkan has gained a reputation for being tough on Capitol riot defendants, with the Associated Press describing her as the "toughest punisher" due to the prison sentences she has handed out. In addition, she made headlines in 2021 for ruling against former President Trump's attempts to prevent the January 6 Committee from accessing White House records. In her ruling, she emphasized that presidents are not kings and that Trump is no longer the president.

Judge Chutkan's Background and Campaign Donations

Chutkan, an Obama-appointed judge who was confirmed by the Senate in 2014, had previously worked at the law firm Boies Schiller Flexner LLP since 2002. During her nomination process, she disclosed that she had worked at the firm. Hunter Biden, who is currently under federal criminal investigation, also worked at the same firm as an attorney from 2009 to 2014. It is unclear whether Chutkan had any interaction with him during their overlapping period. Chutkan has also made campaign donations to former President Barack Obama and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand while employed at the firm.

Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) responded to a post by Monica Crowley, a former Treasury official under the Trump administration, regarding Judge Chutkan's alleged ties to Obama and Hunter Biden. Crane expressed his belief that "The Swamp is real" and criticized Chutkan and others for their supposed disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law.

Charges Against Former President Donald Trump

Former President Donald Trump is facing charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstructing an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. He is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.

Trump's Allegations and Response

Former President Donald Trump is facing indictments in three cases and potentially another one in Georgia. Trump alleges that these investigations are politically motivated and part of an effort by the Biden administration to interfere with the 2024 Presidential Election. Trump's campaign released a statement calling it a "corrupt chapter" in the ongoing attempts to undermine his frontrunner status in the race for the White House.
