The letter, which is owned by Emory University and cannot be photographed, includes a statement by Obama about homosexuality. In the letter, Obama writes that he believes homosexuality is an attempt to escape from reality and avoid the challenges of life. He also mentions that he engages in imaginary relationships with men.

In a letter to Alex McNear, a former girlfriend, a 21-year-old Barack Obama expressed that his mind was both male and female, describing himself as androgynous.
